"There is nothing without an Archetype." - Master Actor and Acting Teacher, Michael Chekhov
What is the cause of all action, in life and on-stage? Archetypes. Archetype Work is life-changing for beginners and enhances all professional performers' work, leading to more successful auditions and more advanced characterizations. We hear again and again that casting directors and agents notice profound changes in performers' abilities as a result of this work.
Your psyche is "made" of Archetypes. Archetypes are the imaginative "programs" in your brain that cause universally recognizable behaviors, movements and sounds. Your behavior, in life and while acting, results from your unique combination of Archetypes and memories. Archetype access is a vital foundation for building nuanced characterizations.
Put simply, access to a whole range of Archetypes is a requirement to be a professional actor or singer that gets work. The less Archetypes you know about in yourself, the less work you will get. Read more here about Archetype Work.
Our Archetype Intensives offer deep immersion in the psychology and experience of this powerful work for beginners and professionals. This work is not therapy but, like great acting and singing, is healing and therapeutic. It is safe and fun!
In the Archetype Intensive:
• You cultivate further access to a whole range of very real energies, emotions, states-of being, voices, bodies, ways of thinking and ways of imagining -- Archetypes.
• You increase your ability to access these altered states-of-being in any audition and for any director, effortlessly and on cue.
• You explore how to use your dreams or daydreams to create unique acting choices, imagined places, people and original characterizations.
• You deepen your understanding of The Psychology of Selves, perhaps the most powerful script analysis tool available, when combined with all the traditional script analysis tools we teach.
• You expand your understanding of the causes of human vulnerability, conflict, attraction, and repulsion. This enables you to even more quickly identify and access a character's loves and conflicts -- experientially -- in front of any casting director, on stage, in film or on television.
• You develop a vocabulary of universal vulnerability and Archetypes. This allows you to even more quickly identify and experience character wants, goals, inner obstacles and actions in all kinds of scripts -- all the classic demands of great performing.
• You deepen your exploration of the Archetypes professional actors and singers must have automatic access to to impress casting directors, win agents and achieve masterful performances: The Masculine, The Feminine, The Killer, The Hero, The Victim, The Pleaser, The Joker, The Traditionalist, The Business Person, The Liar, The Romantic, The Slut, The Old Soul, The Spiritualist, The Magical Child, The Playful Child, The Vulnerable Child, and more.
• You learn how to do this work with other actors, as a facilitator, so you can take this work with you wherever you go. But, like all quality performer training, the work is designed to be invisible to everyone you work with!
Time and time again, highly trained actors and singers take this workshop and report it allows them to see the "big picture" about performing in startling ways, and to make all their previous training make far more sense. By the end of this workshop, you may view human interactions and scripts in a transformed way. You will be able to pick up a script and make quick decisions about the nature and ways in which the characters are at war -- deciding upon strong, playable objectives, actions and tactics. We will analyze a well-known movie during the course of the intensive, using the tools you are learning.
Included in this intensive is "The Voice Dialogue Series and The Psychology of Selves," with Dr. Hal Stone and Dr. Sidra Stone - 12 hours of DVD instruction and demonstrations and 8 CD Audios for check-out anytime.
