The Sensory Process is one of the five fundamental tools of acting. It is used to support the Imaging process in the creation of imaginary people, places or things (objects). It is also used to re-create real people, places or things from your life, such that they are "present" for you while acting. When it is used in the latter fashion, it is most often called "Sense Memory." The Sensory Process trains your senses to respond to objects as if they are really there, heightens your awareness of the world around you, improves your concentration and more.
Actors create imaginary realities and character lives by using their imagination! But *how* do you very specifically use your imagination? By having a very specific Sensory Awareness and Process.
That's right, you need a Sensory Process to be a successful actor with a meaningful career.
• How do you believe that you are sexually attracted to an unattractive actor?
• How do you create an imaginary, but powerful and specific belief that another actor is your mother?
• How do you create a genuine belief you have been raped...or ruled a nation...or were raised in a dungeon?
• How do you create an altered, vivid place -- like a world made of ice cream, or a battlefield, or a spaceship bridge?
• How do you create a person that isn't really there to talk to while on a film or TV set? or in an audition?
• How do you create inner images and memories that distract your haunted character?
• How do you use your dreams to create intense emotional realities and access archetypes?
You do all this and more with a Sensory Process and Imaging. They are fundamentals tools of the professional actor. And some aspiring actors know nothing about them. But respected actors are Masters of these tools.
